Homeopathy First Aid in the Home

Important first aid actions and guidance

This is useful, practical first aid information to help treat and support children and young people facing a minor physical or mental emergency at home.

The information is neither exhaustive nor comprehensive but it does offer a place to start. We have the skills to care for our children at home and to know when something more serious requires professional medical help. The aim is not to replace doctors but to empower parents and carers to help their children at home, when they can.

Simple first aid to support in an emergency:

  • Breathe – focus on the out-breath to clear the lungs. Pause then breathe in ensuring that you fill all of the lungs
  • Count – either with or without a focus on breathing
  • Emotional Stress Release from Touch for Health – pain relief and calming the mind. Hold the forehead gently during and after a stressful situation
  • 5 Flowers / Emergency Essence – repeat as necessary
  • EFT tapping –  repeat as necessary
  • Havening – stoke the face and arms while thinking about the event / situation that causes stress
  • Drink water – it is impossible to hyperventilate whilst drinking
  • Catch a ball – this is an automatic reflex that takes the mind off the issue

Make sure the child / young person knows there is a way out of the situation

Always consider the ‘5S’:

  • Safety – is the person in immediate danger?
  • Stop any harm – will they harm themself or others in the future?
  • Support recovery – in-the-moment techniques to help them manage their feelings now (see above)
  • Someone to listen – listen without judgement. This is one of the most powerful things you can do for someone suffering with mental health issues
  • Show support – how can you support them now and in the future?
